Norma People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones plays the enigmatic Kya Clark in the film adaptation of Delia Owen’s best-selling phenomenon, which is now playing in theaters.

Olivia Newman and Tommy Lee Jones spearheaded the production of Where the Crawdads Sing, but Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company backed the film as well, and Witherspoon herself served as an executive producer.

Kya (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones) is a young girl whose family abandons her as she grows up in the marsh to escape her abusive father.

Then, when Kya was still a young girl, her father also upped and left the marsh.

Kya had to learn quickly that she had to look out for herself after she avoided child protection services and struggled to fit in with the local community.

When she fell in love for the first time, it was with a local boy named Tate Walker (Taylor John Smith). After he left the marsh to attend college, Kya met another boy named Chase Andrews (Harris Dickinson), but he ended up being nothing but trouble for her.

After being accused of murdering Chase, Kya’s life was turned upside down when his body was discovered in a marsh.

As director of Where the Crawdads Sing, Newman gushed about Kya, played by Edgar-Jones, in an interview with Newsweek.

“We’ve never really seen a character like this portrayed on screen before,” she remarked. She has amazing strength. Every time she falls, she manages to get back up. Awkward and sensitive, she is nonetheless. They say she has a soft side.
