where do they film yellowstone tv show. Yellowstone is arguably the most aesthetically pleasing television program due to its breathtaking mountain scenery and wide-open landscapes. Even if you don’t like the cowboy succession drama, you have to admit that no other show features performers actually riding horses, rounding up cattle, and drinking while taking in the scenery. Fans may be surprised to find that up until Season 4, the Paramount Network spent just about a fourth of the time filming Yellowstone in Montana, instead of the more traditional seventy to seventy-five percent. With Season 5 underway, Yellowstone has relocated all of its production to Montana.
The Yellowstone Ranch, easily recognizable by its gigantic white barns and large “Y” decals, is indeed a place that exists in the world. The Dutton family’s formal residence is the Chief Joseph Ranch, a working cattle ranch located in Darby, Montana, about five hours away from Yellowstone National Park. The home is 6,000 square feet in size, and it also has two cabins available for rent. The 2,500-acre plot was reportedly homesteaded in 1880 and given the name “Chief Joseph” after the leader of the Wallowa band of the Nez Perce tribe. Originally owned by glass magnate William S. Ford, who sold it to ranchers Shane and Abigail Libel in the ’20s, the property changed hands several times between 1914 and the ’20s.
The Libels are so enamored with the show’s notoriety that they apparently leave the “Yellowstone Dutton Ranch” sign up all year. When filming isn’t underway, they rent out two cottages where members of the Dutton family stay to outsiders. On the ranch’s website, the two cabins are now called “Lee Dutton” and “Rip Wheeler,” after two Yellowstone personalities who live there. The family revealed on their website that they were cold-called to be the official location for the Dutton ranch and that they enjoy the enormous number of Yellowstone lovers who stop at their gates to take photos of the Dutton Ranch sign. We are deeply grateful to Paramount for selecting our property as the location for this groundbreaking show.
