Tory Packer Dad: Kerry Packer was given the name Kerry Francis Bullmore Packer on December 17, 1937, in Sydney, Australia. Father Sir Frank Packer was a media owner in Australia who owned the Australian Consolidated Press and the Nine Network, among other companies. The daughter of Herbert Bullmore, a Scottish rugby union player, Gretel Bullmore was the mother of William Bullmore. Clyde Packer, his elder brother, was also a film director.

He participated in a variety of sports at school, including boxing, cricket, and rugby, but he suffered academically, perhaps as a result of undiagnosed dyslexia. After his father’s death in 1974, Packer inherited the family estate, which was valued at $100 million. The eldest son, Clyde, had a falling out with his father when he was younger.

During his “magical” childhood growing up in the bosom of one of Australia’s most powerful and enduring families, Francis Packer fondles his silver wedding ring with great affection as he recalls his “magical” childhood growing up in the bosom of one of Australia’s most powerful and enduring families.

But Francis’s grandfather had other plans for him, and his succession to the Packer throne was thwarted by a falling out between Clyde and Sir Frank, the latter angrily quitting the family business and moving to America after years of butting heads with the old man. By default, the family chalice was handed down to Kerry and then James, leaving Francis an unknown quantity in the Australasian community.

Packer acknowledges that he is probably regarded as something of a “black sheep” even within his own family, as a gay man who is described by friends as “a sensitive intellectual,” a man of the arts who prefers to spend his money in a gallery rather than a casino, and his hours digging in the garden rather than carving up a boardroom. Despite Packer’s legendary reputation as a shrewd businessman and his mammoth fortune, he believes that he is

“When I was a child, I was under the impression that everyone had a butler called Alfred… We had one, my grandpa had one, and even Batman had one on television a few years back… Even when I was a little child, there were butlers and individuals who opened doors for me, which I thought was equivalent to having magical abilities.

It is only as an adult that you realize exactly how unique your upbringing was in comparison to the norm. It was nothing out of the usual to have the prime minister call the home, or to get a special birthday greeting from Miss Marilyn on The Super Flying Fun Show,” Mr. Packer recalls of his childhood growing up in the Packer family property in Bellevue Hill.
