Fraud schemes involving impersonation of the Maryland Department of Labor’s Division via electronic mail and text message are a persistent problem, as is evidenced by the department’s ongoing discovery of such schemes.

Do not click on any links in an email or text message purportedly from the Maryland Department of Labor. To finish all necessary steps for unemployment insurance:

directly access the BEACON claimant portal at https://beacon.labor.maryland.gov/beacon/claimant-page.html in your browser, or

Consider downloading the MD Unemployment for Claimants app.

Each person who received Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits in the prior calendar year will receive a Form 1099-G (Statement for Recipients of Certain Government Payments) in the mail. It is the policy of the State of Maryland to report on Form 1099-G the total amount of Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits paid to a claimant in a given calendar year. This might not correspond with the week of unemployment for which benefits were actually dispersed.

Year-end tax forms 1099-G are distributed after the close of the calendar year. The Maryland Division of Unemployment Insurance will post 1099-G forms in BEACON for the 2021 calendar year by January 31, 2022.

The 1099-G tax form will be mailed to the address listed in your BEACON account unless you opted to receive it exclusively electronically (via BEACON). The Division expects to begin mailing the 1099-G tax forms in January 2022 and to complete the task by early February 2022.

BEACON 2.0 also features the 1099-G. No one else will receive a 1099-G but the recipient of the benefits.
