Chris Packham Daughter: Chris Packham’s stepson Megan McCubbin made her live television debut on Springwatch 2020, which aired on the Discovery Channel. Megan appeared with Chris as his co-presenter in the New Forest, where Chris resides, where Megan is from.
Megan’s mother, Jo, a registered nurse, decided that it would be safer for her daughter to reside with Chris at his New Forest house while she worked on the front lines during the first lockdown.
While they were self-isolating in Hampshire, the duo began a daily 30-minute Facebook broadcast that they dubbed the Self-Isolating Bird Club, which they continue today.
“She performed well. ‘You figure out what you want to say, and I’ll fill in the gaps around you,’ I told her. I don’t need to possess anything since I don’t have anything to prove to anybody. I was there mostly as a support mechanism, and I wasn’t required to do so.
“She believes in what she has to say, she is enthused by the research, and she is dedicated to the environmental elements of what she is doing.”
Later in the conversation, Chris spoke about his blended family, which has grown now that Megan is working at The Wildheart Sanctuary on the Isle of Wight with his girlfriend Charlotte Corney.
The producers of Winterwatch were taken aback by Megan’s spontaneous nature broadcast, and they offered her join the program as a guest presenter. Megan agreed.
And now, in a new interview with OK! magazine, Chris, 60, talks about Megan’s first appearance on the BBC wildlife series and praises her natural comfort in front of the camera.
She moved in with Chris Packham shortly before the first lockdown so that she could continue working while her mother was in and out of the hospital as an NHS key worker, which she did.
Megan went on to work with Chris on Autumnwatch 2020 and Winterwatch 2021, as well as on her own wildlife projects, which she aired on social media and for organizations such as CBBC, among others.
“Originally, Megs was interested in animals when she was younger, and when she met Charlotte, she discovered that she had met someone who kept tigers and lions rather than owls and snakes, which was what we had at home.
“Consequently, she went to work at the Zoo and spent a lot of time with Charlotte there. She had been studying theatre up until that point, but being in the sanctuary caused her to experience a lightbulb moment.”
Megan, whom he has known since she was two years old, has shown interest in following in his footsteps, and the TV star quipped that he has been “mentoring her as much as she’ll allow me to” as part of his efforts.
In other words, will we see her on Springwatch in 2021? This year’s series will have a minor modification in structure due to the relaxation of pandemic restrictions in the United Kingdom. The presenters will no longer be limited to covering just their local regions, but will now have the ability to travel.
For this occasion, Megan will not be able to join her stepfather in person, but will instead be presenting videos of a variety of conservation initiatives going place across the United Kingdom, as well as individuals who have made a major impact on certain species.
