Top 30 Funny animal memes and quotes. The concept of owning a pet mountain lion may seem absurd. Still, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation has taken to Twitter to question whether it is a terrible idea to do so.
An image of a mountain lion sleeping in the snow was posted on Twitter by the government department on January 20th, along with the caption: “You’re shivering. They have a coat of pelts. Don’t allow anybody in.” Over 22,000 Twitter users rejected the advice and indicated an interest in touching or owning a mountain lion by sharing the message with their followers.
Wildlife social media coordinator Sarah Southerland told Live Science that she was terrified that people, the Internet as a whole, had simply chosen that they were going to do it regardless of her warnings that people should not touch mountain lions. To create the mountain lion tweet, someone took inspiration from a popular internet meme depicting a mountain lion saying, “If you’re chilly, invite them in.” However, internet users have made parodies for species that aren’t often kept inside, like mountain lions. This slogan is used to persuade domestic pet owners to bring their pets inside during the frigid winter months.
The wildlife agency warned residents not to invite mountain lions inside with a tweet in a lighthearted tone. Users began to dispute in the comments, and the message quickly circulated throughout Twitter. “It was a slow burn, and then once it got up it was a wildfire,” Darrin Hill, a producer for the wildlife department who came up with the initial tweet, told Live Science.

Why is it called a meme?
British evolutionary scientist Richard Dawkins coined the word meme (from the Greek mi mama, meaning “imitated”) in 1976 in his article The Selfish Gene… For a meme to be replicated and transmitted, one individual must copy a cultural unit from another person. Similar to “selfish” genes, Dawkins regarded memes to be the cultural equivalent of biological genes and thought them to be in charge of their reproduction, and so serving their purposes. To put it another way, memes are information carriers that replicate and spread from person to person. They have the power to develop via random mutations and natural selection, with or without affecting human fitness. Memes may positively and negatively affect human fitness (reproduction and survival). On the other hand, the meme is still primarily a theoretical construct. Given the idea of selfishness and its application to the development of cultures, the area of memetics is equally contentious. Memes may take several forms within a society, including ideas, skills, behaviors, phrases, or even specific fashion. For a meme to be replicated and transmitted, one individual has to copy a cultural unit from another person. Most information is disseminated by some combination of written words and spoken words, images on a screen, or technological methods such as email or the Internet. As the most popular memes are reproduced and passed around, they become ingrained in society. It’s been interesting to investigate the connections between cultural evolution, cultural transmission, and memes. It has been argued that memes may be either good or destructive depending on your point of view.
